Founder and President – Moxie Pictures
After graduating from Duke University, Dan decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and go into commercial filmmaking. He was an asst. cameraman for a couple years, but he was not very good at it, so he decided that directing commercials would be better for him, so off he went.
Dan soon realized that he enjoyed working with other filmmakers, so he started Moxie Pictures. The company was going along fine, but Dan felt he needed to make a splash, so Moxie started signing feature film directors, and soon Moxie was on it’s way. Christophxer Guest, Wes Anderson, and Todd Phillips were a few of the early signings, and their success propelled Moxie into the upper echelons of commercial production…
Moxie has always been a home for filmmakers with very distinct POVs
Moxie continues to be a leader in tv commercial production with offices in NY/LA/London, representing some of the most talented filmmakers/commercial directors in the world…
In 2007, the company started a political media firm, a-political, and soon it had it’s first big success, the election of their first client, Governor Eliot Spitzer.
Right from there, they were hired to be a part of the Hillary Clinton media team as she ran for president in 2008. Moxie learned a lot from the loss, but the excitement of being a part of a Presidential run was fascinating.
Later, with the media world fracturing, Moxie decided to go into the world of documentary television and film. Moxie produced numerous television shows, documentaries and sponsored content for such diverse networks as Animal Planet, FYI, ESPN, and NBC. They started the REEL MOMENTS film series for Glamour Magazine . Some of their recent docs include THE LURE, and Tribeca Film Festival Audience award winner, MALA MALA. They have also produced Errol Morris’s last four films, and are currently in production of a series with Errol for release on Netflix in the fall of 2017.
Moxie has also produced critically acclaimed narrative feature films AUSTENLAND, DEEP POWDER, and THE MEND.
Their latest documentary, DINA won the Documentary Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival….That was very, very exciting.
Dan is divorced and lives in NYC and has two children, Ava 18 and Jed 15.
For fun, you can find him on the golf course. He played in his first USGA event when he qualified for the 2016 US Senior Amateur.
